Sure can't complain about "no rain" because it has been coming down in buckets!  And, the thermometer on the tackle shop porch has been at 100 for more than one day.  Add a heat index and you can see why we close at 1Pm during the week.  If you were one of those who tried out the lake this past week, the fishing was tough!  Water is high, and the fish have moved as they always do, but finding them was a chore.  WE had a bass club from Brevard County here on Saturday with big fish at about 5 lbs. and the winning total was only about 11 lbs.  These are great guys and they had wonderful canvas bags without holes so there was water in with the fish. All were released alive and that too is wonderful.  A boat stayed in the water to take them back into the lake.  Our regular guests, Sandy and Darrell (sp) Weaver were her with their friends from the UK.  Ray Wathey loves to bass fish, but he never does well here.  Well, he went out on Saturday by himself and boated a nice largemouth in the 5lb. range.  'Way to go!  Lots of bluegills and panfish around and a few specks area coming in from the middle of the lake where the water is about 10-12 feet deep now.  Depending on the St. John's, it may not stay at that level. But if the rain keeps on coming, speck fishing should take off early.  At least I hope so!  The bass are as far back in the weeds as they can get.  The water is so hot there, but they don't seem to care!  Just use 20-30lb. test and haul 'em in.  Gator season is upon us.  Airboats were running all night Saturday but I don't know if they caught any.  As the nights cool down (if ever), the fishing will pick up and the water level is perfect for the baby fish, which I am told are growing fast!  So-not much news, but maybe next week will be better.  Till next week, good fishing and God Bless.

Ok, don't beat me for skipping last week!  I took my granddaughter home to Alabama and got a chance to spend extra time there with all the family!  It was wonderful.

These are definitely the DOG DAYS OF SUMMER, whatever that means!  Few fishermen out, and if they do come fishing, it is mostly for bream. The bass have moved because of the higher water levels, and even a few regulars are having to search for them. Randy Clark was here this past weekend and he and Dennis managed to boat 10keepers one day.  It was tough, Randy said, but that is fishing and we re certainly not complaining about the high water!  The St. John's folks came to visit-gave us several reasons for their "management" of Blue Cypress and the surrounding area, but did say that they were going to "reassess" their recommended lake level, thinking like we do, that it is too low!  This means that it would be higher before they opened the locks at the end of M.  Now, the level is at 23 and they are considering raising it to 25 or 26!  Good meeting, but not what we totally wanted.  We had some local folks out looking for specks, since I hear that the Harris chain over near Lakeland has been producing some nice ones, but it was a bit too windy to drift and they did n't have a trolling motor.  The water is actaully high enough that they could start schooling early!  Wouldn't that be terrific?  Sold lots of worms and crickets this past week, and some  nice bluegills came in.  Hopefully, if gas continues to go down more, the working folks like us will be able to afford some for their boats.  It is a real hassle, and affects us all.  Gonna' have all the rental units full next weekend, and maybe some real good fishing news.  Till next week, good fishing and God Bless.

Okey Dokey Guys and Gals:  I know it is getting hotter, if that is possible, and I know that gas is over $4.00 per gallon, but get your stuff together and come fishing and forget for a while about all the above!  Fishing is still pretty good around here.  I was gone for a couple of days with the grandchild and I know that the Vero Beach Bass Club was here on Saturday, and I heard  that Annie won the first place but I have no numbers to share!  By the time I got back on Saturday, everyone was gone so if there are stats that you would like on my report, please give me a call.  Neighbors are loading up on catfish and bluegills!  My good buddie, Dillon Bloom was here this weekend with his folks and came knocking on my door Saturday evening to show me another fine, fat bass that he caught!  That boy is a true fisherman and the pros better look out when he grows up!  Bass are still around the trees, and in the outer grass.  The water is up aboout 4 inches, thanks to rain and also to the St. John's agreeing to close the locks at the end of M for a while.  We still need more rain, but it is sure better than this time last year!!!  We are closing as noted during the week, but we are home most of the time, so if you come out in the afternoon and need bait, call us at 778-0150 and we'll come over and get it for you.  It is really so hot for Joe to stay over there so many hours, and for that matter, me too.  I hope to have some good news for you next week with regard to more water! the creeks are running and although I have not been out to try, the mouths of those creeks should produce fish!  Till next week, good fishing and God Bless.

We have some rain, which is good, but not enough, which is bad!  The St. John's closed the locks at the end of M and so we hope that the rain will continue and the water will come up some.  Don't fret though, there is still plenty of water for you to launch and they have sprayed for the hyacinths, so the canal out into the lake is good to go!  Thanks to all of you who are fishing with us. Thanks to Brett and Andy Dietz, whohave made Blue Cypress a weekly trip and have been VERY SUCCESSFUL in their pursuit of bass.  Their numbers were at 10 this past weekend, with no biggies, but a lot of action.  The fish are here, guys and the numbers are still very good.  One at 8+ this past week on a P-nut  Butter Senko was the largest.  Also had some good fish caught in our residential canals.  Bluegills and catfish are still plentiful.  If you are gonna' fish for catfish, get yourself some chicken livers or use night crawlers.  The junction of the M and ZigZag has been really good. Also, the outside trees in the north east end.  No running water to speak of to bring in these yummy guys, but they are plentiful!  Flyfishermen in the M have had mixed success.  Chartruesse popping flies and white and chartruesse are the ones to use.  The north end trees also produced some bluegills as well as some nice bass, hiding in the boles of the cypress trees.  Topwater in early AM and then dark plastic worms.  Same old, same old, but it has been working.  The VEro Beach Bass Club will be here next weekend, and I hope to get their numbers but I will not be here for the tournament.  Taking my grandchild Brooke on a 2 day cruise.  Be back in time for the report though.  Till next week, good fishing, and God Bless!!

Ok, Everyone!  Another good fishing week!  And, we are getting some rain but it is having trouble keeping up with what is leaving the lake.  What else is new?  We are down to one launch, at the tackle shop because there is so much water lettuce and hyacinths that the end ramp is pretty much stopped up.  Plenty of water to navigate though, so don't worry about that.  It is not like last year, for sure. Bass fishing has remained good with fish up to 8 lbs. being caught.  Again, they are in very shallow water, some so tight in the grass that youbetter have 20-30 lb. test if you want to drag 'em out!  They seem to be feeding early in the morning and again about 3-5 PM.  Bluegills are eating crickets and worms, and some flyfishermen are using Miss Prissys, the old standby!  We had a quiet Holiday Weekend as far as numbers but those who fished, went home happy!  We had some really nnice folks out and about, and ofcourse we h ad our 4th of July fireworks celebration on Saturday night with fireworks as good as you can see anywhere!  Jeff and Mike and the guys went all out this year!  They always give us a great show.  Lori and Paul Bloom and a bunch of their friends spent the Holiday here and Mark and Rox and their bunch as well.  Now--to let you know about our new shop hours:  We are feeling a pinch like everyone else with the economy as it is so we have decided to shut down some of the week.  We will be open from 6AM until 1PM on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Tuesdays we are closed.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be full days from 6AM until 4:30 PM.  No one fishes in the middle of the day with the rains and heat.  This schedule will be in effect for July and August.  We will be home most of those times, so if you do want to go fisihing in the afternoons, please call us and we will go over and get you bait or whatever.  We don't want to lose our customers, but we are dealing with high costs just like you guys.  Any questions, e-mail or call us. Till next week, good fishing and God Bless.
